- Contains vitamins B – Beer has high levels of B vitamins, particularly folic acid, which is believed to help prevent heart attacks. It contains vitamins B1, B2, B6, and B12. Experts say that beer drinkers had a 30 percent higher level of B6 than their non-drinking counterparts. To get the best of these vitamins, drink unfiltered or lightly filtered beer.
- Helps fight cancer – This delicious adult beverage also contains something called xanthohumol, a flavonoid found in hops. This potent antioxidant inhibits cancer-causing enzymes. German researchers discovered that xanthohumol, which also helps prevent dementia, can block excessive testosterone reducing the chance of prostate cancer. German beers are said to be brewed with extra levels of it. Researchers are studying this nutrient for potential cancer-fighting drugs. In the meantime, drink a full-flavored IPA or Hefeweizen.
- Full of fiber – The average liter of beer contains 20 percent of the recommended daily intake of fiber. A really good, rich craft beer can provide 60 percent. Fiber aids in bowel function, digestion, and absorption of food and ultimately decreases cholesterol levels.
- Does not give you a beer belly – Researchers have found no connection between the amount of beer people drank and the size of their bellies in those who drink beer regularly and moderately. Most likely, consuming too many calories is to blame for overhang. To avoid getting too many calories from beer, opt for a 12-ounce beer comprising 64-110 calories.
